Special Appeals

Boys' Bathhouse Campaign

We need to build a bathhouse that can meet the needs of up to 50 boys, is handicap accessible, and can be shared with groups using the Chapel.

Boy's Bath House PlanRWBC Board of Directors agreed during its summer meeting to move ahead with a capital campaign to raise $80,000 to replace the old bathhouse. The old bathhouse was closed 8 years ago due to water and sewage problems and not being handicap accessible. This is really unacceptable and requires our campers to walk a long distance, often during the middle of the night, to the retreat center facilities. It becomes especially difficult when we have camping for individuals with disabilities, who need assistance with their independent living skills. Tripping and falling can easily occur when there is less light along the path and campers are half asleep, let along afraid of the dark. Our goal is to begin construction this fall and to have the bathhouse ready for use in the Boy's Village next summer.

We are so pleased to have already raised half of the funds needed through the generosity of Friends of Red Willow. We are especially grateful for a $20,000 gift designated for this project by Paul and Marilyn Hagen of Cooperstown. Paul served on the Board of Directors for the camp and left a life insurance policy designating the camp as beneficiary. Paul left this world this past June and his wife, Marilyn, would like the gift to be a challenge to other Friends of Red Willow to consider gifting to this special campaign.

We are searching for at least 7 people to make up a Bathhouse Campaign Task Force. These individuals should be willing to pledge $5,000 and agree to ask another 5 people for a pledge of $1,000 or more to the project. We prefer not to take away from regular giving to the camp's general budget, so this is a special capital campaign. We will provide the training and pledge cards to make this task simple and enjoyable.

Can you help? We would like to hear from you soon, so we can continue moving ahead with this important camp service. We urge you to consider making this project one of your missions. A bathhouse would give comfort to both campers and their families. If you are interested in making a large gift to this project, we will work with you to make that happen.
