Appreciation Dinner Recap

The Friends of Red Willow Appreciation Dinner was held at the camp on July 23. The 80 plus guests were served by the summer staff. Following the meal, the guests walked to the flag pole where the Carrington VFW Post 3524 raised a new flag over the camp.

The program continued in the Chapel, where we celebrated its 60 years of service to the camp. Ken Gilbertson and Denny Goetz gave some history of the chapel, and Pastor Rafe Allison re-dedicated the Chapel, with a new name: Memorial Chapel. The chapel was constructed in 1949 with funds raised to honor the war veterans. A plaque will be hung in the chapel with the name and dates of the construction and re-dedication listed.

Clint and Audra StarkeSpecial music was provided by the Clint and Brenda Starke family. Clint and daughters Alyssa and Audra shared their love of music with us.

Our guest speaker was Pastor Ray Klug, former camp director during 1968-1974. Ray and his daughter Becky shared many memories with the group.

Many churches and individuals were honored for their contributions to Red Willow Ministries:

  • Trinity Lutheran Church of Carrington, Pastor Bruce Vold, Randy Munkeby and many others were recognized for their work on the Chapel Roof.
  • Tri-County Ministry and the nine congregations making up the parish were recognized for donating to the chapel fund.
  • The Family of Vicki and Darlene Miller were honored for their adoption of Bethel Cabin in their memory. Present were DaRahn LeBahn, Terry Miller and Ron Miller.
  • The New Rockford Lumberjacks were recognized for their work last fall sawing Red Willow Trees into benches for the campfire area.
  • Ken Hedmark was unable to attend, but was honored for his generous donation of original wildlife prints to the Wild Game Feed silent auction each year.
  • Grand Forks Rural Parish; this group of hard working youth and adults from Walle, East Walle and Evanger Lutheran Churches have done many days of random acts of kindness at the camp, and worked on finishing many projects left incomplete.
  • The Quilt Auction Committee is blessed with many wonderful volunteers. This year three of the members collaborated on the raffle quilt. Connie Iverson, Terry Dramstad and Nancy McKinnon. They donated their time and talent to making yet another stunning quilt to be raffled off during the Quilt Auction.
  • Lyle Becherl Memorial. Lyle was a good friend to Red Willow Bible Camp, and worked on a construction crew over the past few years. He was part of the crew that renovated Phoebe Cabin, Bethel Cabin and built the Observation Tower. Lyle passed away suddenly in July and a tree will be planted at the Bible Camp in his memory.

CommunionOur master of ceremony, Peter Gugisberg kept the evening on track, and Pastor Rafe concluded the evening with a communion service.
