Summer Camp Update

Christ Hike: The Story Comes Alive

Camp staff dresses in Biblical costumes to bring the story of Jesus to life.Every Tuesday evening at camp, the summer staff along with the campers take a walk through the Bible starting with the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, and ending with the Ascension of Jesus.

The story comes to life as they walk Around the camp meeting familiar people from the Bible: Jesus' mother at the wedding in Canaan and Zacchaeus meeting Jesus and repenting of his sins. The campers witness the last week of Jesus life as they take part in the Palm Sunday Parade, and then the betrayal of Christ and his Crucifixion.

Cross Hill at DuskOn the road back from Cross Hill, the crowd walks along with a stranger who has not heard the news of the death of Christ. At the end of the journey, they invite the stranger to eat with them. Their eyes are opened, and Jesus disappears from their sight.

Reflections from the Director...

We have started our fourth week of camp, and the sound of junior high kids playing on the game field and swimming in the pool drift in my office window. The inch of rain we received Monday morning has refreshed the earth, washed the dust off the leaves and lifted our spirits. We have four very busy weeks of camp ahead, but God continues to provide us with the right summer staff at the right time. We have great environmental education activities, recreation options, and Bible study and chapel under the director of our summer chaplain.

The pool is always refreshing on hot days, and the waterfront provides opportunities for canoeing and other watercraft options. Up in the arts and crafts cabin, the campers are making their own colorful beads which are baked and then woven into necklaces and bracelets.

Some new additions to the camp this summer are ten mountain bikes and a water trampoline with a slide and a roller log. A traverse climbing wall in the gym will be in operation soon. Thank you to all who have contribute to the special fundraisers for the equipment we have added to our programming.

This Month at Camp

The last two weeks of July bring our 4th season of basketball camp for boys and girls. We have a week for Advance Holy Hoops with 7th-9th graders, and one week for Elementary Holy Hoops for 4th-6th graders.

Hands and Feet Servant Camp

July 27-31, 2008

This is a new camp this year with the focus on high school leadership development. The week begins with learning how to lead Vacation Bible School and then traveling to Dacotah O'Yate Lutheran Church at Tokio to lead the children of the community in three days of lessons and activities.

There is still room for a few more students in this week. Contact the camp office to register.
